After breakfast proceed to see visiting the 2000 years old Swoyambhunath stupa, (UNESCO World heritage site in 1979) also known as "Monkey temple” This temple charms with its great dazzling stupa, while at the same time, offering a view of Kathmandu city. The two-thousand year-old stupa is the most profound expression of Buddhist symbolism in Nepal. There’s evidence to believe the hill was used for animist rites even before Buddhism arrived in the valley two thousand years ago. After this visit Patan likes to recall its old name LALITPUR (UNESCO World heritage site in 1979) ("City of Beauty "), and although now largely absorbed by greater Kathmandu, this once powerful independent kingdom still maintains a defiantly distinct identity. Compared to Kathmandu its quite, less frenetic and more Buddhist (there may be a correlation). Above all, it remains a proud city of artisians. Patan is well known by its temples and handcrafts, besides the amazing creation of the beautiful fine decoration of Durbar Plaza, full of the finest pieces of newari architecture of Nepal. After Patan durbar square visit to Kathmandu Durbar square, (UNESCO World heritage site in 1979) Kathmandu Durbar Square is one of the major attractions in Kathmandu Valley. The word Durbar Square translated in English as Palace Complex. The Durbar Square, with its old temples and palaces, epitomizes the religious and cultural life of the people. Interesting things to see here are:- Kumari (The Living Goddess) Ghar, At the West end of the square, is a beautiful house full of woodcarving of different God and Goddesses. This Palace is three storied and in this palace, lives the very famous living Goddess Kumari. Both Hindus and Buddhists equally venerate her. For Hindus she is the reincarnation of Hindu Goddess Kali. She is equally worshiped by Buddhists because she is chosen from Buddhist family. This shows the harmony between Buddhist and Hindus in Nepal. Drive back to hotel.
Day 3 Kathmandu: After breakfast drive to Bhaktapur,(UNESCO World heritage site in 1979) Bhaktapur is filled with monuments, most terra-cotta with carved wood columns, palaces and temples with elaborate carvings, gilded roofs, and open courtyards. The city is dotted with pagodas and religious shrines. The Art Gallery has a fascinating collection of ancient manuscripts, thangkas, centuries-old stone sculpture, antique paintings that belong to the Hindu and Buddhist traditions of various periods. After Bhaktapur drive to Changu Narayan, or Vishnu, is the preserver of creation to Hindus. His temple near Changu village is often described as the most ancient temple in the Kathmandu Valley. A fifth century stone inscription, the oldest to be discovered in Nepal, is located in the temple compound and it tells of the victorious King Mandev. The temple now covers sixteen hundred years of Nepalese art history. The temple, built around the third century, is decorated by some of the best samples of stone, wood, and metal craft in the Valley. In the words of one tourist guide, "When you look upon Changu Narayan, you observe the complete cultural development of the Valley."
At the last visit to Great Stupa of Boudhanath (UNESCO World heritage site in 1979) in the Kathmandu valley, a vast dome-shaped monument representing the Mind of the Buddha is the primary pilgrimage destination for Tantric Buddhists of the Himalayas and a major draw for Tibetan Buddhists from all over the planet. The history of the stupa from its origins in the fifth century to the present day is also presented here for the first time.' Drive back to hotel.
